Whole wheat oatmeal cookies

The last time I had oatmeal cookies, I had to throw away the entire packet coz it was really bad in taste. I’m not sure if the cookies were stale or if that batch was bad..Since then I made up my mind to make oatmeal cookies at home. Afterall nothing serves you better than a fresh batch of home baked cookies!! Here is the recipe


Healthy whole wheat and oatmeal cookies


Whole wheat oatmeal cookies
makes approx. 24

  • 3 tbsp Butter, approx. 42 g
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/8 Cup Honey (the recipe originally asked for 1/4 cup but I found the cookies to be too sweet hence I’m taking half the quantity)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla essence (optional)
  • 1/2 Cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom (optional)


Cream the butter, sugar, honey, water, vanilla, cardamom and eggs together till light and fluffy. To check that the mixture is creamed enough, the whisk should leave a trail when run through it. This makes you batter light and airy and ensures the cookies aren’t flat and dense.

Sieve in the wheat flour, salt and baking soda and using a spatula lightly fold it in. Tip in the oats and fold till just mixed.

Preheat the oven to 190C.

Grease a cookie sheet and using a tablespoon, drop heaped spoonfuls of the cookie dough. Keep the cookies spaced out as they expand a little.

Bake for 15 minutes or till golden brown on the top. Remove and place on a wire rack. Cool and store in an air tight jar.
